About Me

Spiros is a curious and driven researcher, suffering from entrepreneurship tendencies, who wants to apply Computational Science to the very small nano scale as well as the very big planetary scale. He is fascinated by Computer Science and the intersection of Biology, Computational Mathematics and Engineering.


One of my defining characteristics is my passion for conducting mathematical modeling research and applying computational science to analyze important problems. I always strive to work smart and hard in order to bring forth insights regarding the projects I am working on. In the past two years I have been actively involved with two of my University’s research laboratories. In the Computational Modeling and Simulation Laboratory I discovered my passion for numerical analysis and cellular automata models. In the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Laboratory I learned how medical imaging and mathematical modeling can make a serious impact on the way cardiac diseases are identified. Problem solving and analytical thinking is a muscle I have been exercising daily in both laboratories, while always working and communicating with a team. It is my strong belief that the combination of my experience, skills and last by not least personality make me an excellent candidate for relevant positions and educational programs.

● Researching non invasive methods for evaluation of Coronary artery diseases,
● Exploring mathematical modeling of Atherosclerotic Plaque developement,
● Experimenting with blood flow simulation (CFD) using ANSYS.

June 2018 – Present Researcher,
Laboratory of Computational Modeling (CMODLAB), Dept. of Information Technology, Ionian University, Corfu, Greece
Supervised by professors Markos Avlonitis and Ioannis Karydis.
● Research and Development of Cellular Automata models to describe dry metal friction.
● Supervising a team of three undergraduate students in the process of creating lab software and visualization tools. For example http://enceladus.di.ionio.gr/e-trap/ .
● Developed ML models for the prediction of fruit fly population using multi-year population datasets.
● Created a database to store multi-year datasets of fruit fly population and environmental data.

July 2019 - August 2019 Research & Development Intern, Creative Web Applications (CWA) in Corfu,Greece
CWA is a software company that is closely associated with the Ionian University’s Computational Modeling Lab and is actively involved with R&D programs.
● Statistical investigation and time series analysis of dry metal friction.
● Created a database for the continuous storage of environmental data from the Ionian Islands.
● Programmed tools to automate the parsing, preprocessing and data insertion.
● Extensively study the friction process and the statistics of tribology.
● Database Administrator of the lab’s databases and assisting on Debian server maintenance and administration.
